For our Julia:
I promised you when I found our I was pregnant that I would do
things differently than my family, that you would not be abused by
those closest to you as I had been. I made that promise again the
day you were born, and I mean to keep it. Your birth was healing
for me on a level I cannot even fully understand yet. A part of my
body that long ago endured so much suffering and pain is now the
passage of the best thing I've done in my life so far: you. I know
I cannot protect you from everything, nor would I want to, but I
will always be here for you. I know your dad will be too.
After all those months, I was so happy to finally be holding you
in my arms! Hopefully one day your little brother or sister will
be able to have a birth experience as wonderful as yours. We love
you Julia!
